If your organization is still Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) GEN 2, it is time to choose your approach, prepare for upgrade, and go through it. After March 20, 2025 customers will not be able to create any more OIC GEN 2 instances.
Oracle will complete the majority of upgrade work on your behalf. All you need to do is complete some required steps and specify your requirements.
Your tasks before upgrade include:
- Correcting precheck issues: to ensure that your instance is upgrades successfully, check your upgrade readiness and correct any precheck issues:
- Configuring upgrade settings: You should have received notification of your scheduled upgrade window, checked your upgrade readiness, and corrected any precheck issues. Before your upgrade, configure the upgrade settings.
- Completing pre-upgrade tasks: If you need to reschedule your upgrade, you can do so if the upgrade is more than three business days away.
- Pausing any sort development: In the days and hours leading up to the upgrade, limiting your work in Oracle Integration Generation 2 can help ensure a successful upgrade. You’ll receive an email reminder to pause your development work two days before the upgrade.
By default, upgrade notifications are automatically sent to the specified administrator email. Oracle recommends you have notifications sent to a distribution list or group email so that you don’t miss important emails if someone leaves the company. You set who receives notifications on the Upgrade page.
Oracle responsibilities during your upgrade will include scheduling your upgrade, reminding you about the upgrade, and get it done on the date it is scheduled.
During and after upgrade:
On the day of the upgrade, before it starts, Oracle will send you an email to inform that the upgrade will start soon. The upgrade generally takes less than ten minutes. Your Oracle integration GEN 2 instance is unavailable during the downtown. After the upgrade Oracle sends an email to inform you that the upgrade completed successfully or if there was an issue. On the day of upgrade, or up to ten days after the upgrde complete post upgrade requirements. This can b done by accessing the new Oracle Integration 3 instance using your existing URL and credentials, and perform verification tasks as needed. For example, some organization perform regression testing after upgrades.
Process Upgrade Options:
Depending on how you’re using Process in Oracle Integration Generation 2, you’ll use a different option to upgrade or migrate.
Upgrade Option 1:
Automated In-Place Upgrade for Process: Upgrade option 1 applies to you if you have no process usages, or your process usage is in a pre-production state, or you are only using decision applications.
In this scenario before the upgrade you must replace the Process action in any affected integrations. And ensure that all required transactions complete in Oracle Integration GEN 2 before the upgrade.
During the upgrade, Oracle exports your process applications from Oracle Integration GEN 2, enables Process Automation in your upgraded Oracle Integration GEN 3, and converts your existing process applications and important them into your Oracle Integration GEN 3.
It is important to note that Process instance data is not migrated to Oracle Integration GEN 3. This means you wont see historical transactions created in Oracle Integration GEN 2 after the upgrade.
Once the upgrade is completed, you must perform post-upgrade activities to restore your process applications to working order.
Upgrade Option 2:
Migrate Process Application to a new OCI Process Autonomation instance: Upgrade option 2 applies to you if you are using process in production, and you have long-running process instances which cant be completed before the upgrade, and you need to continue to serve new process application requests without disruption.
Then, you need to migrate process applications to OCI Process Automation by provisioning a new OCI Process Automation instance. Migrate process applications to the new instance. Perform post-migration activities to restore process applications to working order. And update clients that call OCI Proceed automation.
Once these steps are completed, switch to OCI Process Automation for new transactions. Upgrade the Oracle Integration GEN 2 instance once all process instances complete. Attach the OCI Process Automation instance to Oracle Integration GEN 3.
